More Visualization Studies

So once again I’ve been busy working on the ILM Art Department Challenge (link), this time I’ve been working on round two, “The Ride.”  Of course, I’m still not allowed to share anything with the world until the whole contest is over, but wish me luck in getting to the final round of competition (we won’t get notified until Friday, the 8th)!

So, in between, I’ve done some more of Bobby Chiu’s Drawing Excercises (link) to practice visualizing and drawing men’s heads without reference:

Here are the results; I feel I improved as I went:

Also, I completed another Skyfall film study:

This was probably the most interesting and challenging study to do without lines, having to paint from dark to light

More Iterations

Quick update this week as I spent a lot of time working on a Mother’s Day portrait for my mom, which I won’t post here for her privacy reasons…

Anyways, here are some more sketches/iterations of my personal project character, the military commander in charge of the special forces that my main character is (was) a part of:

He is a commander, but rather than the stereotypical older, hard nosed, no humor sci-fi military man, I want him to come across as a younger amiable, jokey, cocky character, but one who is VERY serious about his mission and his duty and will transform into someone a lot less friendly if that mission is jeopardized.  His strong sense of duty and his views have been shaped by a traumatic history…

Figure Studies

I apologize for the missed update from last week, but I have two posts today to make up for it!

Some figure studies below…

Just a Quick Update

I won’t bore anybody today with my fundamental studies…however I did do a little sketching for the Artstation Character Journey Contest, just to figure out how my characters might look.  Check them out!

Boy iterations and Tommy the unhappy Chimp…see earlier posts to see what the heck this is even about!

Working the Fundamentals

So I don’t have as much exciting stuff to share this week, as I have taken some inspiration from both Feng Zhu’s emphasis on hardcore fundamentals as well as Scott Robertson’s How To Draw (please buy this book, it’s sooooo good http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933492732?keywords=scott%20robertson%20how%20to%20draw&qid=1457811251&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) and so most of the stuff I’ve been working on is pretty boring, but I know it will make my work so much better.  Mostly I’ve been filling my sketchbook with a bunch of straight lines and ellipses to perfect my draftmanship.

I have included my most exciting sketches from the last week below:

Visual Library & Some Character Design

Some more hard surface work since my last update: here are a few sketches of some cars I thought were pretty awesome.

And here is a painted study of one of the cars, an Audi (wish I knew the model).

Villain Sketches

Last but not least, here are some sketches of a cyborg villain I’m currently working on…

Last but not least, here are some sketches of a cyborg villain I'm currently working on...He's a former military leader who lost a war and was at the edge of death until he basically sold his soul for a chance at being rebuilt with new power and a chance at revenge. At this point, he's more man than machine...
